This project represents a careful dialogue between the existing structure and the evolving needs of its inhabitants. The clients approached us with a desire to expand their home in both size and spirit—seeking to introduce a cohesive Craftsman character while preserving the essence of what was already there. The original structure, modest in scale and presence, served as the foundation upon which the new design was built.
Our intervention focused on honoring the existing footprint, strategically extending it to create additional living space without disrupting the quiet rhythm of the surrounding neighborhood. New architectural elements were introduced with restraint and clarity, allowing the home’s original proportions to remain legible. Tapered columns, expressive gable trusses, and carefully detailed trim were integrated into the design, drawing from the familiar language of Craftsman architecture.
This process was not simply about adding more, but about building with intention—layering new forms into the fabric of the old. The result is a home that feels both rooted and renewed: a calm, spacious environment where past and present meet in balance.
